With a stretch of beach covering 3km of sand and shingle and boasting the Blue Flag award, Roquetas De Mar is popular with couples and families alike, attracted to the relaxed, friendly atmosphere and great activities. When it comes to the weather, Roquetas De Mar will not disappoint, with temperatures reaching the 20`s out of season and into the 30`s during the summer months.
Sitting at the base of the Sierra de Gador Mountains, Roquetas De Mar is backed by a promenade lined with cafes and beach bars, perfect for watching the world go by with an ice cold drink as the sun lights up the day. Around the lively port you will find a good selection of Spanish tapas bars and fish restaurants, offering delicious local cuisine and freshly caught fish dishes, as well as international cuisine to suit all tastes.
Shopping in Roquetas De Mar consists of the usual gift shops and mini-markets selling holiday essentials and some good cheap holiday souvenirs, like jewellery, pottery, embroidery and leather wares.
Although Roquetas De Mar has a fairly relaxed nightlife, there are a handful of lively bars, staying open into the early hours, and a disco pub to keep you dancing through the night. Some of the larger hotels offer an extensive in-house entertainment programme.
Just to the south of Roquetas De Mar is the Las Marinas salt lagoon, popular with nature lovers and bird watchers, where you can see an incredible population of birds, including pretty flamingos.
