Holidays in Funchal, Madeira, combine glorious weather, Blue flag beaches and picturesque surroundings. Located on the south-east coast, Funchal is the capital of this delightful island and is divided into three parts: the historical old town around the marina, the living area, with white washed walls and cobbled streets on the hillside, and the Lido where all of the hotels, shops and restaurants can be found near the tree-lined promenade.
The black pebble beach at Praia Formosa is 10 minutes from funchal and has been awarded the Blue Flag, due to it`s cleanliness, but the 3 public lidos are perfect for sunbathing and swimming. The Funchal weather offers pleasant winters and can reach the late 20`s during the summer months, perfect for topping up that tan and cooling off in the water. Shops, markets and the San Quiteria centre, filled with retailers, sell some great, cheap holiday souvenirs and when it comes to eating you will find some excellent restaurants serving local and international cuisine. Funchal nightlife consists of a good choice of bars and a few discos, though it is not renowned as a lively resort. If you head up into the old town you can mingle with the locals to experience a lovely friendly atmosphere.
