The Roman Bridge over the river is still in use today, splitting Tavira in two. Strolling round the maze of cobbled streets in Tavira you will notice beautiful churches, pretty squares filled with flowers, centuries old riverside mansions and pretty white-washed buildings. The Tavira weather can reach 20° out of season and up to 30° during the summer months, ideal for sunbathing and swimming on the beautiful beaches, or trying your hand at a number of water sports. Away from the beach there are a good selection of shops, mini-markets and a monthly market where you can purchase the usual holiday essentials and some good cheap holiday gifts. Lining the river and pretty harbour are a great choice of restaurants and shaded cafes, offering delicious local cuisine such as chicken piri piri, freshly caught, speciality fish dishes, international meals and fast food, like fish, chips and burgers. Tavira has a good number of bars, pubs and discos to choose from, although it is not known as a very lively resort, more for enjoying a few drinks, in a friendly atmosphere, as the sun goes down.
