Located on the south-east coast of the island, Skiathos Town is split in two by the Bourtzi peninsula and backed by pine clad hills. On the eastern side you will find the modern side of Skiathos Town with trendy boutiques, classy restaurants and lively bars, whereas on the western side lies the old town, filled with narrow cobbled streets, small traditional tavernas and prettily painted fishing boats in the harbour. On the headland between the bays are the ruins of the old fortress.
The Skiathos Town holiday season runs from April to October, when the temperature can rise from 20° up to 30° in the height of summer, perfect for sunbathing and cooling off in the sea.
A number of sandy beaches can be found in and around Skiathos Town, with some of them accessed via the harbour ferry and some on foot. If you can drag yourself away from the beach you will find numerous shop and boutiques for some great cheap holiday souvenirs, and when it comes to eating out, you can opt for delicious local and international cuisine, as well as freshly caught fish dishes.
Skiathos Town nightlife offers the best of both worlds, with traditional tavernas along the cobbled streets of the old town, where you can enjoy a quiet drink, in contrast to the lively bars, clubs and discos on the eastern, modern side of Skiathos Town.
