Kamari is a popular holiday destination, located on the east coast of Santorini, having been totally re-built after the earthquake of 1956. The long, black sandy beach is backed by a traffic free road that is lined with plenty of cafes, restaurants and tavernas. Here you can enjoy local and international cuisine to suit all tastes, with specialities including chargrilled fish, moussaka and delicious kebabs.
The Kamari holiday season runs from April to November, when the temperature can rise from 20° through to the early 30`s, ideal for sunbathing and swimming, or trying your hand at a number of water sports on offer. A number of mini-markets and gift shops line the seafront, selling the usual holiday essentials, as well as some good cheap holiday souvenirs, though if you are searching for a wide variety just head into Fira for the day. Kamari nightlife is a lively affair with plenty of bars, tavernas and discos along the beachfront road staying open late into the night and check out the superb open air cinema that shows all the latest international films.
