Karavados sits about a mile inland from the nearest coast at St Thomas, off the main road between St Thomas and Argostoli. Karavados is set at the base of a mountain in scenic, rugged, pine-covered terrain, surrounded by olive and citrus groves. A small, flattish plain lies between the village and the coast, where the road drops sharply to the small beach.
The Karavados holiday season runs from April to November, when the temperature can rise from 20° through to the mid 30`s. Close to Karavados you will find St Thomas Beach, which is actually 2 small, sandy coves, one accessed via a steep ramp, the other by a 100-yd track around the headland. Sun beds and parasols are available on the larger, path-accessed cove; no water sports are available but the shallow water is good for snorkelling. The area also has a basic boat jetty, 2 small tavernas and stunning views of Zakynthos across the bay. There is just a village mini-market so serious shopping has to be done in Argostoli. Days can be spent lazing on the beach or exploring the local villages. The nightlife offers a couple of local tavernas.
