On the north coast of Crete, east of Heraklion and just next to the resort of Sissi is Milatos, a tranquil village unspoilt by modern buildings. Couples and families holiday in Milatos for it`s traditional charm and sandy beach with crystal water. The temperature in Milatos can range between 14-21° out of season and 25-30° during the summer months, perfect for topping up your tan whilst lazing the day away on the beach.
There are a number of good tavernas, restaurants and bars in Milatos, serving traditional Greek cuisine and fresh fish dishes, such as `Meze`, a mixed plate of deep fried fish, pickles, olives, stuffed vine leaves and halloumi. The restaurants will cater for most people`s tastes, and you can wash your meal down with a few drinks whilst watching the sun go down. If you are looking for a big night out then head to Malia to party through the night.
You can purchase all of those holiday essentials from the handful of mini-markets, souvenir and gift shops, and a trip into Heraklion or Rethymnon gives you the opportunity to shop all day.
Milatos is 60 minutes from Heraklion Airport - 75km (46 miles).
Ideal for Couples
Just spend your days relaxing or exploring the surrounding area, and then in the evening enjoy a romantic meal watching the sun go down, sharing a bottle of chilled, Greek white wine.
Great for Families

The sandy beach is less than a 10 minute walk from the centre of Milatos and there are two other small beaches next to the harbour in Milatos.
Diving and snorkelling are popular activities around Milatos, and whilst on holiday here you must visit the Milatos Caves, with wonderful views over the bay and the surrounding countryside. Inside the entrance is a small chapel built in 1935 as a memorial to the massacre that occurred in 1823 when the villagers taking refuge from the Turks were discovered and murdered.
This traditional resort has managed to retain it`s Greek character and charm, with a lovely harbour and beautiful surrounding countryside, just waiting to be explored.
