Situated on the north-west coast of Crete, Chania (pronounced Hania) is a truly beautiful resort, combining the Old Town, offering Minoan era ruins, mosques with minarets and a 17th century fort, with the lively harbour area and jazz clubs in the Venetian Quarter.
The temperature in Chania can range between 14-21° out of season and 25-31 during the summer months, wonderful for topping up that tan and swimming in the crystal, clear water. A variety of beaches can be found in and around Chania, from secluded coves to long stretches of sand and shingle. Head to the harbour area and you will find a great selection of restaurants and tavernas serving delicious traditional cuisine, fresh fish dishes and international food to suit everyone`s tastes. Whereas the waterfront is full of trendy bars, jazz clubs and discos to help you party into the night, there are also quiet, traditional tavernas in the backstreets. Here you can mingle with the locals, playing backgammon and chill with the atmosphere. Chania is home to some of the best shops in Crete, and you must check out the daily market in the centre. Boat trips are popular from the harbour and Chania has the added bonus of a cheap, regular bus service for holiday makers to explore the surrounding area.
