Located on the west coastline of the Red Sea, Hurghada was founded in the early 20th century as a small fishing village that has grown over the years to become the second most popular resort in Egypt. From 20° in December and January, through to 35° in July and August, Hurghada really is the all year round holiday resort, and with the sea temperature averaging 20° in January to a glorious 26° from July to September it is no wonder that holiday makers return year after year.
The fine sandy beaches in Hurghada are mostly private for the hotels guests to use, with many being open to the public for a small charge and a few public beaches. Nightlife is very good with all of the many bars and clubs coming alive in the evening. There are also plenty of restaurants along the main road serving local dishes of fresh caught fish as well as international cuisine.
The museum and aquarium are well worth a visit to see all of the flora and fauna of the Red Sea, or why not discover the tropical fish and coral first hand by snorkelling off the beach, diving through one of the many dive centres, or taking a trip out in a glass bottom boat for the spectacular views. Excursions available in Hurghada include boat trips, desert trips and visits to ancient sites.
